Group Therapy
Group therapy has the same outcomes of individual therapy with the added benefit that comes with being in community. Being in a group with other people who stutter (or other parents of children who stutter) reduces the stigma and shame that can make the experience of stuttering so difficult. Listening to and sharing experiences with stuttering provides clients with practical ideas, problem solving opportunities, and the encouragement to keep going when talking gets tough. Like individual therapy, all group sessions include progress monitoring, exercises, discussions, and take-home assignments.
Groups are available for Kids & Families (ages 8-12), Teens (ages 13-18), and Adults (ages 18+). All groups are comprised of 4-6 participants. “Kids & Families” groups will also include at least one parent per child participant. Group sessions range from 1-1.5 hours in length and are scheduled in blocks of 6-8 sessions (Summer groups may follow an “intensive” format where all sessions are instead scheduled over the course of a 5-day week). All groups are “in-person” and will be held in the North Seattle area. Possible locations include Phinney Ridge, Shoreline, Edmonds, and Mountlake Terrace. The exact day, time, and location will be scheduled once sufficient interest in the group has been registered.
I am currently recruiting groups to launch for Spring and Summer for all ages. Use the contact form to register your interest in group therapy.
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is available to people who stutter ages 8+ living in Washington state. We work collaboratively to set both long-term and short-term goals to help ensure early and continual progress. All sessions include progress monitoring, exercises, discussions, and take-home assignments.
Like with group therapy, parent involvement is crucial to the treatment of kids and teens. Parents should expect to accompany their child for at least a few sessions, though we will work together to determine which sessions and how frequently a parent will join according to the needs and temperament of the child.
Most sessions are 55-minutes in length, though other session lengths are available. In-person sessions can be arranged for local clients. Online sessions are available to all clients living anywhere in Washington state. You may schedule as many or as few sessions as you like. Some clients only need a few sessions to feel they have made sufficient progress, while others may want to be seen more regularly, and others may just want to “check-in” once in a while.

Assessment
I am not offering comprehensive speech and language evaluations at this time. However, all individual clients receive an informal assessment of stuttering and general diagnostic impressions in their first therapy session, which is generally sufficient for submitting out-of-network superbills for insurance reimbursement (see “Billing and Fees” below). Formal evaluations of stuttering using standardized measures are available upon request.
Billing & Fees
Fees vary based on the type of services offered (group therapy, individual therapy, in-person, online, block sessions, etc.). The benefits of offering a wide variety of service formats is that everyone can find a specialized stuttering service that is accessible for them. During our free consultation call, we can discuss your needs and determine a therapy plan and fee structure that works for you.
I am an “out of network” provider and not accepting insurance at this time. I can provide individual therapy clients with “superbills” upon request. Superbills can then be submitted by the client to their insurance company for potential reimbursement. I do not provide superbills for group therapy, as group therapy for stuttering is generally not covered by insurance.
